The Vienna Energy Security Dialogue 2024 Edition

Energy Security in The Long Run:
Managing Energy Systems with wise foresight

Jointly organized by the World Energy Council Austria and the OSCE, in co-operation with
Ernst & Young and the Federation of Austrian Industries, the
seventh edition of the
Vienna Energy Security Dialogue will be dedicated to discussing how to foster Energy Security in the long run, taking stock of the various short-term challenges.

Major geopolitical developments and the growing challenge of climate change expose energy systems to new and greater risks. At the same time, these developments underscore the central role of energy in our overall security landscape and therefore the critical need to develop energy systems within a security and efficency perspecitve.

The upcoming VESD will explore the complexities of global energy security against this background and provide insights and strategies to address these challenges. The event will thereby contribute to a secure and people-centered energy transition. The morning sessions will set the scene, by discussing the latest challenges facing the energy sector, while the afternoon sessions will focus on innovative solutions and foresight.

Gathering over 200 decision makers and energy experts from the private sector, politics, academia and civil society, this year’s edition features the following sessions:

Morning:

  • Energy Security in a Shifting World: The Geopolitics of Stable Supply and Efficient Use
  • A Balancing Act: Supply Chains, Grid Balance, and Regulatory Support to Ensure a Rapid and Secure Energy Transition

Afternoon:

  • No Mitigation without Adaption: Increasing Energy System Preparedness for Climate Risks
  • Innovation and Energy: Implementing Digital and Data Driven Solutions to Enhance Energy Security in the Long Run
  • Interactive Panel on Energy Education, Efficiency and Inclusivity for Enhanced Energy Security
