Competition Law in Transition:
Trends and Challenges

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are pleased to inform you that the conference Competition Law in Transition: Trends and Challenges has been a true success. There were more than 100 participants in Dubrovnik and more than 50 via live streaming. We are confident that all have enjoyed both the key note speeches as well as seven highly informative panel discussions.

I am grateful to Ambassador Paul Vandoren and Commissioner William E. Kovacic, our key note speakers for their highly inspiring and thoughtful speeches. Echoing Mr. Vandoren's thoughts, indeed we as members of profession should always strive to promote the competition law and improve the environment. As Mr. Kovacic would say (although in a different context), it is always important who plays. I was so proud to chair the conference with such great players on board. My sincere gratitude and thanks to all session chairs and speakers who shaped the conference into one of major competition law events in Europe this year.

I am deeply thankful to all those that have attended as participants at the conference both in Dubrovnik and via live streaming. It was an honor to welcome you in Dubrovnik. Hopefully you will remember the Conference as an all-around success: educationally, networking-wise and culturally.

Unlike many other conferences this conference was designed by the profession for the profession and with no registration fees. This would not be possible without the support of all session chairs and other speakers as well as the support of their respective organisations/firms. Jointly we have strived to create an attractive programme focusing on hot topics worldwide.

The whole concept is to have an interaction between regulators, judges, in-house lawyers, academia, economists and private practitioners. The title of the conference "in transition" reflects two things: first and foremost: the ever-changing nature of this field and second a touch on "transition" in other sense, competition law in transition economies. With an ever-growing number of jurisdictions which apply competition law the conference structure provides a platform for discussion on major topics in a comparative way. Dialogue between various stakeholders on these topics is needed to shape future reforms and to better both enforcement and practice.

Many dear colleagues volunteered to speak but the panels were already full. Also, many have not been able to attend for various reasons. I hope you will join us on the next occasion.

Please remember to visit the conference website http://eventmaker.pro/dubrovnikcompetition/home.html; where you can download conference materials and view pictures from the conference. Some speakers will make further contributions in form of articles or otherwise and there will be further updates.

We are proud to have the support from such a great community of professionals. Thank you again for the confidence.

If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Boris Babić
